Bed Spreads made by artisans of Kashmir. The bedspread in pure wool in Jamawar jacquard design is in fact an enlarged version of Jamawar jacquard shawl. It is particularly suitable for cold weather since it keeps the bed warm. Beside Jamawar bedspread is also very elegant to look at. ShalinIndia bedspread coverlets are unique for the quality of workmanship. It is not just any bedspread coverlet; it is a work of art; it has a soul. The task of creating a jamawar bedspread is complicated as the designs on these bedspreads are realized not by embroidery but by the simultaneous weaving with wool shuttles of different colors. These shuttles known as 'kaani' in the local language gives Jamawar another name ''kani". The wool being delicate, it is essential to use hands instead of machine and that requires enormous patience of the weavers among all the other qualities. These coverlets were so special that they often made the exclusive royal gifts to the foreign guests. They were also in vogue in many parts of Europe mainly as they held close resemblance to the Paisley patterned shawls. The colors used in one bedcover vary from two to fifty.
